Biography

"My paintings are born from questions rather than answers."

(Córdoba, Spain, October 12, 1983)

Natalia Revelles López was born into a family deeply connected to the arts. From an early age, she grew up surrounded by painting, poetry, and philosophical thought—an environment that profoundly shaped her creative vision. As the artist herself states: “Growing up surrounded by art and philosophy defined the way I see the world and express myself.”

In 2001, she began her studies at the Faculty of Fine Arts Alonso Cano in Granada, following a generational lineage closely linked to artistic practice. She completed her degree in 2006 and has since taken part in numerous group exhibitions, where her interest in portraiture and nature already emerged as central themes in her work. Since 2012, she has also worked as a teacher, a vocation she has developed continuously alongside her artistic career.

One of her first significant exhibition experiences took place in Bujalance, her grandfather’s hometown. There, her realistic portrait of her grandmother, María del Valle, established a delicate intergenerational dialogue in which tradition, memory, and symbolic heritage intertwine with her own visual language. Later, in the exhibition Otoño Decorao, she introduced a more abstract approach through watercolor works depicting animals against black ink backgrounds, where color began to take on a more expressive and emotional role.

In 2020, she resumed her pictorial practice with renewed intensity, entering a phase of stylistic consolidation marked by the exploration of identity and the connection between humanity and nature. Her portraits—characterized by spontaneous lines and fluid brushstrokes—merge with organic elements, reflecting her interest in psychology, the mind, and emotional states. This body of work culminated in her first solo exhibition in November 2022 at the La Platea Cultural Center in Alhaurín de la Torre.

In recent years, her work has evolved toward an increasingly symbolic and introspective language. This research took shape in the solo exhibition Reflejos del inconsciente (Reflections of the Unconscious), presented in the upper cloister of the Córdoba Congress Palace, a historic site of great cultural significance. In this project, Revelles delves into the idea of the image as an emotional mirror, inviting viewers to confront their own layers of consciousness.

Parallel to her figurative work, she develops a more experimental line that combines mixed media, collage, and printmaking in abstract compositions and floral landscapes. These works are defined by a distinctive use of light and color, where fluorescent tones heighten contrasts and intensify the symbolic charge of the images.

In the artist’s own words, her aim goes beyond the purely aesthetic: she seeks for “each image to become a mirror for the viewer, a reflection of oneself.” In series such as Between Instinct and Consciousness, she explores the inner tensions of the human being, blurring the boundaries between the rational and the instinctive.

Natalia Revelles López is, ultimately, an artist who moves between the poetic and the introspective, offering a visual experience that invites the viewer to pause, look inward, and reflect on existence.
